About the Program

This class will cover basic soil science relative to onsite wastewater treatment covering subjects such as soil texture, structure, mottling, basal loading rates, linear loading rates and code soil requirements. There will also be hands-on soil analyses and designing of wastewater treatment systems. This class would serve those persons studying for the Master, Journeyman and Soil Tester license exams, and installers/designers in Wisconsin wanting to improve their soil analysis skills, evaluation of soils reports and in communicating their design intentions. This class will also address common wastewater treatment problems and solutions.

About the Instructor

Jeff Hammes is a Professional Soil Scientist and Certified Designer in Wisconsin. He has owned and operated “Hammes Soil Testing and Design” since 1977. Jeff was past president of WOWRA in the early 1990s and created the Scholarship and Awards programs. Currently he is an appointed member to the DSPS POWTS Technical Advisory Committee. He has been a guest lecturer in soil science for the Biological System and Engineering Dept. at the University of Wisconsin – Madison for over 19 years.  He also received his Bachelor and Master of Science degrees from the University of Wisconsin.

Continuing Education Credits
